Tips to Spring clean your tech

With Spring in the air, now is the perfect time for a Spring Clean of your tech! Here are three of our top tips:

1 – Back up your pics

This is a great excuse to ensure all your data is being backed up - there is nothing worse than having your phone go for a quick swim and losing all your vacation photos. Thankfully there are a few different options to choose from to help protect these memories.

The 3 most popular options for cloud back up for your phone are iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive.

Most people will already be signed up to one of these services already and if so, now is the perfect time to check if you enough storage left on your cloud service or if you will need to purchase some extra storage to keep backing up your data.

The next step will be to make sure your data is being backed up, some helpful links for this will be provided below on how to check this:

2 – Clean up your unused apps

If you are anything like us, you will have a list of apps installed that on your device that is a mile long and you won’t even remember what half of them are for or do! That’s why it’s always a good idea to go through and delete any unused apps. In addition, this will provide some extra storage on your device. Follow the steps below for a quick refresh of your applications.

To uninstall apps on Android

To uninstall apps on iPhone

Open the Settings menu on your device, then go to Apps or Application manager (depending on your device). Find the app you want to delete and tap the Uninstall button. The app will be deleted from your device in a matter of seconds in most cases.

3 – Check app permissions and make sure you have multi factor authentication set up (MFA)

The next good step to take would be setting up MFA on any accounts that allows you to do this, there are plenty of MFA apps that you can use such as Microsoft Authenticator and Google Authenticator. Most websites will allow you to set up MFA such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and each website will have a helpful guide on how to get this set up.

To take this one step further the next thing to check will be the permissions your current apps have access to. Most of the time apps will access to a wide range of things on your phone you may not have known about or want them to have such as access to your camera and microphone. Below is a good article on how to go through and check each apps permissions on your device to make sure they only have the permissions they are meant to have.

Now you have done your spring cleaning it’s time to enjoy your summer adventures ahead with no worries!
